How to Craft a Catchy Book Title
Ever been attracted by a deserted dunghill?
I know, you smiled, and you’re wondering what that question was for. Of course, I know that attraction means a lot, and there’s no such dunghill that could possibly attract anyone. And that is why it’s important to let you know that the quality of your book is the degree to which its title would attract and gain the attention of your audience. Basically, a lot of things come to play when writing a book, but if your book would be a bestseller, your ability to craft a catchy title should be a major consideration to you.
A Catchy Title: What Is It About?
I think it’s brilliant that you’ve got a lot of pages and rich content in your book. But then, what makes the difference is what your audience hears you say through your book title. And this goes way beyond just having a title that tells your audience what you have written about. Rather, it is about gaining their attention enough to let them give your book a second look. Then, a third look. Then, many more looks. And then, a decision to finally buy it.
So, How Do You Get Started?
- Understand The Subject of Your Book
Now, what do you want to tell your audience? What’s the message of your book? It’s important that you are aware of the subject area of your book as this will inform the kind of title you would come up with. You can’t write a book on sports, and your title should be about cooking.
- Get to Know Your Audience
You must be able to craft an identity or avatar for the kind of audience your message is for. Indeed, you’ve got to know them so well that you know their pain points. This will begin to give you ideas on how your title should be a relief to those pain points.
- Decide to Birth Value
I’m sure you don’t think anyone would get a book that’s of no use to them. If you want to get the attention of your audience, it starts right from your title. What will make your audience stay curious to find out what your book is about is when they see that the title speaks about the value they need. So, do everything you can to make your book title value-promising.
- Focus on Attention
Honestly, I can’t stress this enough. Attention can’t be over-emphasised when it comes to the “catchyness” of your book title. The truth is, it is not catchy if it does not gain the attention of your audience. And when it does not gain their attention, you’ve lost them already. I’m sure you know what that means. So, if your goal is to craft a catchy title, then, your immediate focus should be how to gain your audience’s attention.
